Francesca prostitutes herself for men or women in order to keep her boyfriend Frankie supplied with heroin. She exhibits an utter disdain for everything her customers have to offer, except their money. When the toll becomes too much, Francesca tries to drown herself, but she is rescued by Charlie. His tender love and encouragement help her to regain self-respect. A part of her still clings to her former ways and she returns to Frankie, but she ultimately finds the will to reject his sordid existence forever. She leaves Frankie, the temptation of heroin and the vicious circle of lust that brought her to death's door.
