Having grown fond of Miss Farnaby Mulberry is reluctant to help his father to kill her and instead goes out of his way to make sure that she is safe before leaving the area. He meets up with Death,who tells him that his optimistic nature is down to his mother being Springtime and agrees to giving Miss Farnaby a three month stay of execution so that Mulberry can help her to enjoy life. Mulberry returns to the house and persuades Miss Farnaby to sing 'Daisy Bell' while riding a tandem with him.
