To help preserve the intensity, the first commercial break didn't occur until 30 minutes into the show.

During the final montage, the little girl that David Aceveda is holding is Benito Martinez's real life daughter.

This episode had 4.8 million viewers in the USA.

When Corrine comes out as Vic is grilling and is talking to Terry, Michael Chiklis' real life wife Michelle is the lady with brown hair who has her back to the camera who hands Corrine (Cathy Ryan) her real life daughter, Hailey, who plays Vic and Corrine's daughter Megan on the show.

The decision to kill off Reed Diamond's character Detective Crowley was done specifically to shock viewers and make them hate the Vic Mackey character. To keep the surprise twist a secret, Reed Diamond's name is in the opening credits and clips of him where heavily featured in commercials for the series in order to create the illusion that Diamond would be a major character in the series.

The final musical clip features all the characters except Julien. Footage was shot for this character, involving him having oral sex performed on him by a man, but it was decided prior to transmission that this was a slow-build storyline and they didn't want to reveal it at this early stage.

When the opening shot of a TV show warns you that the show you're about to watch has graphic violence, nudity, strong language, and that it may not be appropriate for children, you know what's coming up next ain't "Picket Fenses." In the vein of tough cop's like "NYPD Blue" came the FX Channel's first original series, "The Shield," starring a leaner and meaner Michael Chiklis as Vic Mackey, a Los Angeles Detective who gives the term "bad cop" a bad name.

Mackey is head of the Strike Team, a street tactical unit composed of plainclothes Detectives in the Inner City. Mackey has a firm control of his men and has a firm grasp of the politics of police work, and as long as he's producing "safe streets, arrests, and convictions" he's bulletproof from anyone who disagrees with his methods. On of those is the new Captain at Mackey's precinct, David Aceveda (Benito Martinez), a Latino cop with his eyes on a higher office and sees Mackey as his ticket to stardom. As is the case with all episodic crime drama, "The Shield" has a Case of the Week, and the pilot involves the murder of a woman and the abduction of her daughter, a 7-year old girl who is presently in the hands of a pedophile that is not talking.

The Episode starts off in a paradox comparison where the Captain 'David Aceveda' is giving a speech behind a podium explaining his recent stake on the 'Farmington Division Police Department' where then you can see 'The Strike Team', a special anti-gang team, chase down a suspect through a Supermarket which they get to them in a back-alley where 'Vic Mackey' the Strike Team's leader punches the suspect a couple of times. He then pulls down the suspect's pants and underwear and says 'Looks like you got a third 'nad there. Let me get that for you' and rips off a stash of drugs which is taped to the suspect's testicles. The episode later goes into a trend of the new member of the Strike Team 'Terry Crowley' is asked by Vic Mackey's arch-enemy Captain David Aceveda to be his eyes and ears of Vic and to testify on corruption charges against him, he reluctantly agrees. Then the storyline shows some preliminary Sub-Plots and then while Vic has a Backyard-BBQ he explains that there is a drug-dealer they need to nab that night named 'Two-Time'. A few more sub-plots hit the way and it comes time for the arrest. With Kid Rock's 'Ball and in the ball bangy dang diga-diggy' song playin' where they break through second floor window and Vic and Shane (Vic's best friend) strafe along and see Two-Times flushing his drugs down the toilet where he fires at Shane and Vic - missing them. Shane dives down and Vic strafes left both firing at Two-Times -- killing him. Terry enters the house and Vic takes a cloth and grab's Two-Time's gun and fires once into Terry's face, where he then leans over him in tsk's.

This is the best Series premiere I have seen for any drama.

Feel free to enjoy the show.

A pretty decent pilot to something that seems like it will be a really good cop show with a lot of actions and twisted story lines.

I didn't care much for the main case of the episode. It is in a way good how he went right away to deal with pedophiles as it sure makes the beginning of the show already pretty crass which heightens interests. But I didn't like the moral issue on how it is better to have a cop that breaks the rules because one day he will be needed to save a girl from a bad pedophile. It reminds me of the reason why I never bothered to watch Dexter. Hope it will not be full of this.

The ending was pretty insane. Wonder where it goes from now, a great way to capture the viewers and make them want to see more.

The characters are already getting interesting and there is a big variety in personalities which all seem to be portrayed by great actors.
