John Ritter and Amy Yasbeck were married in real life (until Ritter's death in 2003) they have one daughter together.
This episode marks the third and final time Amy Yasbeck played the wife of her real-life husband, John Ritter, after "Problem Child" (1990), where they first met, and later on an episode of the Cosby Show.
The writers recycled a previously-used plot device in this episode. Casey tracks down her long-absent, deadbeat husband Stuart after seeing him on television in the crowd at a baseball game, where he is struck in the head by a foul ball. In the season 2 episode "Mother Wore Stripes" (1991), Brian tracks down his long-absent mother after seeing her on television in the crowd at a golf tournament, where she is struck in the head by a golf ball poorly hit by former President Gerald Ford. Unlike the latter, the showrunners chose to show Stuart's accident, to take full advantage of John Ritter's slapstick prowess.
