I got this movie on a lark, because Patton Oswalt was listed as the "cake pervert." It was largely the highlight of the film.

Given that the writer/lead and director were members of the Vandals, I figure they are attempting a "punk" movie. The performances are unpolished to be sure. I keep wondering if they are trying to model the movie on punk, in that it can be honest, wild, and unconventional and still work? The answer is...not really. His first movie was truer to this goal (i.e. the cult classic Suburbia).

In order to believe these performances, you have to believe these people are largely morons who are uncommunicative. That worked with the drugged up, emotionally volatile slackers in Suburbia...it doesn't work here. I wanted to believe this will work, but it really doesn't tell a story worth watching. Escalante should have played up the absolute absurdity of the situation for comedic effect a la real life Family Guy.

You've either got to know someone affiliated with the film, or desperately want to watch this experiment to bother with it, because it is quite bad (but the music is o.k.)

i checked out this movie because the vandals are a cool band so i thought that this movie would be cool too... i have seen some bad stuff in my life but this crap is just that...crap. i think its so funny that joe escalante is a self proclaimed producer/director. i guess you can do that when you have a crap-load of money to throw around and access to large distributors who probably owe you favors and is the only reason they take this product. but honestly the sad part is, that kids probably buy this because it has the vandals name on it that they think its gonna be good and it ends up holding up the short leg of the dinner table. but i guess joe doesn't really care as long as it sells. kids...save your money...make your own "film" (video) and show it to your friends, i guarantee, in advance, that not only will it be better than this, ten-fold, but you will probably have more fun making it that watching this dump in a box.
